Prayer of the Week is written by Terry Stead

week beginning 6th October 2008

“Holy Lord, although many of us gather to worship in different ways, we remember your call is for us to find unity, not division, in our diversity.  We pray that the Church continues to be a place that teaches us to open our hearts to all.  That it is a place that inspires mercy, forgiveness and understanding, where we hold in respect the many people and many lands comprising our one world. We ask that we come to know and understand your love fully, and make it evident in our lives through our actions.  May we truly follow your teaching and so always celebrate the good in all people.  Let the Church ever be a place that is open to all those who seek you.

Amen.”

week beginning 13th October 2008

“There are so many times, Lord, when we miss the moments that you give us so freely.  Moments pass us by and we miss the sounds of nature, a clear view from a mountain, a child’s laughter, a friend’s caring, or a stranger’s smile.  Times that you have provided for each one of us to cherish.  Open our eyes and our hearts to your moments.     How blessed we are to be surrounded by these and yet so often we let them pass by without fully realising the impact they will have on us.  Help us to treasure each precious moment, to embrace and accept every minute of the day and to dedicate them to your glory.

Amen”

week beginning 20th October 2008

“Psalm 46 states “Be still and know that I am God”. How often, Lord, do we do that? In our busyness when do we take the time to be completely still and feel your presence around us? Our lives are usually so full of things to do, and places to go, that we forget to be still and remember that in that stillness we will meet you face to face. Precious God, as we try to attune our hearts and minds to your presence all manner of thoughts bounce around our inside our heads. Allow us now to acknowledge them and then put them away so that when we come before you we can become still and know that you are truly God.
Amen.”

week beginning 27th October 2008

“Lord, how often is our whole mind consumed with worry over something? It seems to draw us down into an abyss that is so hard from which to climb out. It affects every part of our day and night and often the worries are about things that have not happened yet. Please help us to take each moment as it comes and to not worry about what may happen, but revel and enjoy each moment as it occurs. We take all our worries and concerns and hand them over to you, Dear One. We want to anticipate the good that is going to happen and accentuate the positive parts of our lives. You have given us the freedom to enjoy each and every moment and for that we thank you.
Amen
